DeDe attended John Muir High School and was a two sport athlete playing both baseball and football. Dede was an All American quarterback on the football team. DeDe received a football scholarship to Washington State University and played Wide Receiver for the Washington State Cougars. DeDe also played for the Philadelphia Eagles until an injury ended his football career. DeDe returned home to his community but his love of football did not die.
DeDe worked in his family-owned salon/barber shop “Moore II Moore” as a barber/hair stylist. DeDe's shop was a special place in the community where people would come get their hair done, hang out, and have some laughs.
DeDe was not just active in his community as a businessman; he also had a heart and desire to further awareness of important causes such as Sickle Cell Anemia. DeDe organized the First Annual Sickle Cell Lip Sync Show in 1999. The show in 2003 was DeDe's last and, even though he was in a wheelchair, DeDe still participated in an effort to further a cause to help others.
THE MOORE HOPE CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION was established to honor DeDe Moore, a giant in his community and a wonderful, generous and dynamic human being who deserves recognition for his achievements.
In 2005 our good friend DeDe Moore was fighting the battle of his life. After being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's Disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disease with nearly 5,600 new cases in the U.S. every year that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. DeDe was told he only had a few years to live. He fought with pride and honor and never asked "why me"?
DeDe was able to attend the inaugural MOORE HOPE CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION "FRIENDS HELPING FRIENDS" Golf Tournament where he visited with family, friends, and supporters. Sadly, DeDe passed away shortly after the event in September 2005. We all miss him but his legacy of courage continues through the MOORE HOPE CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION.
